He has worked with me to achieve my goals of getting toned and strong. He has taught me to focus on my movements and to slow down. Oraine has helped me to improve my athleticism and flexibility. I began training with Oraine 2 years ago, before that time I had worked with other trainers - both online and in-person, on-and-off for 9 years with marginal results. Oraine is one of the best trainers I have worked with in the last 10 years. At the time, I was 30 pounds over-weight (5'2" and 140 pounds) and had been recommended physical therapy and surgery by doctors due to excruciating back pain, Oraine stepped-in with his training program, focusing on nutrition as well as a customized work-out program. Oraine often refereed to me as his "guinea pig" as I was one of his first clients 8 years ago, before he joined equinox and was still studying for NASM. I still chose him over other trainers because of his passion for fitness and his drive to not push a hard circuit on me but pull me gently into the gym with understanding, empathy and constant communication which was crucial given the immense stress I was under as a trader and my poor physical condition.
What really distinguished Oraine for me was his constant focus on form and correct posture as oppose to just banging through the workout. This is what has stuck with me even today, and I understand the importance having been injured before. Within a few months, my back pain magically disappeared (much to the doctor's surprise) and within a year, I lost 30 pounds. Not only did I look very fit (5'2" still but now 110 including muscle weight), I felt strong physically and mentally - he indeed change my life forever. I have been able to keep this weight off since then with his guidance.
I trained with Oraine recently again, now that he is Tier 3+ at Equinox and has several certifications and clients under his belt, and I felt thrilled I was his guinea pig since I can't find an empty slot on his training schedule anymore.

When I met Oraine five years ago I had been off my game for months. An injury had forced me to give up running, my fitness mainstay. Oraine proposed I try one training session. I have been hooked ever since. I soon realized that DIY can be a dangerous thing in the modern gym. If you're just copying things you've seen others doing, if you lack understanding about the underlying biomechanics, you can spend plenty of time and effort without accomplishing much. You can easily injure yourself, too. Oraine showed me how to pursue total-body fitness systematically, and I have greatly improved my strength, agility and endurance. Oraine himself is a natural athlete and knows what works; he invents many of his exercises, always with impressive imagination and insight. Correct form is key, and after working with him awhile, you'll realize that many people around you, even those who seem to be in shape, are often doing things that are counterproductive. Oraine has been this way from the beginning: immensely knowledgeable and thoughtful about individual problems, and dedicated to the progress of people he works with. So I was especially surprised when, a couple of years into our collaboration, he revealed that I was his first client. He has never seemed anything less than a top pro, and never stops striving to get better at what he does.
I have been working out with Oraine Barrett for two years now. There has never been a day where Oraine hasn't come to a session with a big smile, full of energy, and full of positivity. I have been working out with various trainers for about ten years. I am a very committed work out enthusiast and try to stay in athletic condition. Oraine is one of the bets trainers I have ever worked with. He is very knowledgeable about anatomy and fitness, has a very keen sense of how hard to push you, and he designs very customized programs for whatever your goal. For example, Oraine has very different work outs that he does with me, some with heavy weightlifting for strength, some sports workouts for conditioning, and sometimes a combination. He is always focused on form, and I have never injured myself in any workouts with Oraine. He always focuses on core strength which has done great things for all the other aspects of my fitness. Combine all this with a truly friendly and easygoing personality, and a lot of charm, and you get an idea of Oraine. I consider him a friend. Oraine is one of the best.
I have worked out with about 7 trainers and Oraine is one of my favorites. He really focuses on form and as a result, my form is so good now that people in the gym are always complementing it. I had spinal surgery a year ago, and Oraine was incredibly good at getting me back into shape as soon as I was ready. He worked out a special program that was part PT, part work out, and gradually brought me back to full strength and conditioning.
